Little touches like welcome tea, hearty lunch from the... read more terrace overlooking the mountains, walk with me to show me the city, visit the market, offer me an itinerary to maximize my experience. He is recognized and appreciated in the community, even took the time to calmly explain to the children why they should not shout "money, money". As an independent traveller, I have been inspired by his suggestions and I am convinced that my stay in Gondar has been much richer culturally and humanly than just visiting heritage sites.
The room is simple but comfortable, ideally located close to the castles.
Simon inspired me with confidence and I felt safe during my stay, even taking advantage to leave for half a day in the mountains.
For me, staying at the Lodge and meeting Simon made my stay in Gondar one of the highlights of my trip.

Note that the castles are under renovation, but the scaffolding has been removed and they are beautiful.

Of course being downtown surrounded by churches means you will hear the prayers on the speaker, but if I had wanted an anonymous beige room with no cultural change of scenery, I would have gone to Niagara Falls rather than Ethiopia.

The room was clean... read more and the location of the lodge is very central to all the ancient castle of Gonder. Everywhere we go it was a walking distance. The breakfast was very delicious with kind service. The owner of the Lodge is very helpful and indeed he is very friendly person. We had arranged guided tour through the lodge which was great and everything went quite well. I would strongly recommend this beautiful lodge to anyone traveling to Gonder.

Lodge Du Chateau is a small family run hotel, with about 8 room units... read more (iirc). Room is clean, safety. However during the time when I stayed, there was power outage sometimes and internet connection was not available (due to goverment restriction, not the Lodge's fault).
The onwner, Mr. Simon was very warmed hearted, informative & attentive. He introduced sightseeing places, places to eat in Gonder. His honey with bread for breakfast was sublime.

In a very warm way, he made us feel at home and managed to make us experience magical moments, pointing out different pearls of the city and taking us to special places. Gonder is a very nice and lively city, with a rich history.
In the hotel there is a beautiful courtyard garden and most importantly there is a wonderful rooftop terrace where an unparalleled breakfast is served. There is also a wonderful view of the city there. Remarkable attention and love speaks from everything.
